The Joyce Andersen Band
Joyce's fiery fiddling and soulful singing rocket her band of veteran seacoast sidemen through a spicy musical gumbo. Honytonk, blues, cry-in-your-beer-ballads, rockin' Irish fiddle tunes with a New Orleans beat, and Andersen's own country/folk/pop originals are some of the tasty fare that this band serves up. Everything from hip shakers to buckle shiners.
After a decade as a Òside-galÓ fiddler playing in country bands (out of Nashville) as well as swing, bluegrass and celtic groups and playing a dizzying number of studio sessions, Joyce Andersen moved swiftly to center stage as a solo artist. Her four solo CDs and her live solo shows have gotten her national attention in the folk world, as well as her recording and performances with husband Harvey Reid. But The Joyce Andersen Band marks an exciting new addition to Joyce's performance career.
With a stellar rhythm section (Jim Lamond, bass and Joe Rogers, drums) and a hotshot multi-instrumentalist (Kent Allyn, keyboard and guitars)Joyce is able to delve into some of the more rockin' sides of her singing, as well as the breadth of her improvisational fiddling. In addition to covering folks like The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Delbert McClinton & Big Mama Thorton, Andersen's band delivers worthy versions of her originals that she recorded with bands on several of her CDs. And it all fits together.
